Donald Trump gives Kamala Harris a new nickname

Former President Donald Trump, known for giving his political opponents nicknames, dubbed Vice President Kamala Harris “Laffin” in a post on Truth Social Thursday, amid speculation she could replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee for the White House.

“We also extend our deepest regards to our potential new Democratic challenger, Laffin’ Kamala Harris,” Trump wrote on the social network. “She performed poorly in the Democratic nomination process, starting at number two, eventually getting defeated, and dropping out before she got to Iowa, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t a ‘very talented’ politician!”

The comment refers to Harris, who is well known for her laugh, which has even been imitated by a Harris impersonator on TikTok.

Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz reposted Trump's Truth Social post on X with the caption: “This is it. The best ever. Period.”

Trump stepped up his attacks on Harris as calls for Biden to resign as the Democratic nominee intensified following his difficult performance in the CNN presidential debate.

While some Democrats encouraged Biden to step down after his slow debate, Biden and his team have said he intends to stay in the race.

In a recently released clip, Trump called Harris “evil” and “pathetic.”

Harris still supports Biden in the presidential race.

“Look, Joe Biden is our nominee. We beat Trump once, and we’re going to beat him again,” Harris said on CBS News Tuesday.

This is not the first time Trump has given a political opponent a nickname. He has previously called Biden “Sleepy Joe,” “Slow Joe” and “Curvy Joe.”

During his 2016 presidential campaign against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, he also called her “corrupt.” He also called her “crazy Hillary” and “liar Hillary.”

During the 2016 Republican primaries, he attacked several candidates running against him. He called Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz “Lyin' Ted” and Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio “Little Marco.” Both politicians now support Trump.

He also gave nicknames to some of his opponents in the 2024 Republican primary. He called Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis “Ron DeSanctimonious” and former South Carolina Republican Gov. Nikki Haley “Birdbrain” and “Tricky Nikki.”

One of Trump's most infamous nicknames was “Pocahontas,” a reference to Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren. The name was a reference to a claim that Warren was of Native American descent.

Trump has also given nicknames to foreign leaders, media figures and other notable figures.
