Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the winner Indian Cricket Teamwinner of the 2024 T20 World Cup at his residence in Delhi on Thursday. Led by Rohit Sharma, the team clinched the championship with a victory over South Africa in the final. However, Indian cricket witnessed mixed emotions right from the triumph as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20I cricket.
“Thank you @narendramodi Ji sir for this step. I am very happy to be a part of @swachhbharat. Maybe I will take a selfie in real life one day if I am lucky. Haha,” the Mumbai-based Indian posted in 2017.
BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a special Indian 'NAMO' jersey during their visit to 7, Kalyan Marg.
The Indian team, accompanied by head coach Rahul Dravid, met Prime Minister Modi. They also presented the T20 World Cup trophy to the Prime Minister.
After their lively meeting with Prime Minister Modi, the Indian team left for Mumbai, where the BCCI organised a one-kilometre celebratory procession from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium. At the stadium, the players were felicitated in front of a large Mumbai crowd.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who attended the final against South Africa in Barbados on Saturday, awarded the Rs 125 crore cash prize to the Indian team for winning its first ICC trophy in over a decade.
