Trump targets Kamala Harris as Biden creates buzz

Donald Trump's campaign and some of his supporters have launched a preemptive political offensive against US Vice President Kamala Harris, seeking to discredit her as some of her fellow Democrats speculate she could replace President Joe Biden as party leader in the 2024 presidential race. In this context, a video of Mr Trump attacking Ms Harris and calling her “pathetic” has surfaced on social media.

In the video, Mr Trump, sitting in a golf cart holding a stack of cash and with his son Barron, says Joe Biden is withdrawing from the race because of his performance in the June 27 debate. The 78-year-old asked: “How did I do in the debate the other night?”

Donald Trump claimed he eliminated President Biden from the race and called him a piece of trash in addition to calling Kamala Harris pathetic.

Speaking of President Biden, he said: “He just resigned, you know, he dropped out of the race. I took him out of the race, and that means we have Kamala.” Mr Trump said he thought she would be a better candidate than the 81-year-old, whom he described as a “crumbling old pile of shit”.

“She’s so bad. She’s so pathetic. She’s so f**king bad,” he continued.

Mr Trump also questioned Mr Biden’s ability to handle foreign adversaries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. He said in the now-viral video: “Can you imagine this guy handling Putin? And the Chinese president, who is a fierce person. He’s a fierce man, a very tough guy. And they see it.”

Towards the end of the clip, the former president added: “But they just announced that he's probably going to resign.”

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre denied the rumors and said the U.S. president was “absolutely not” withdrawing from the presidential race and had no intention of doing so. “The president is clear-headed and he remains in the race,” she told reporters.

Biden said in a conference call with members of his campaign and party that he wasn’t going anywhere, according to a source close to the campaign. “I’m in this race all the way and we’re going to win because when Democrats come together, we will always win. Just like we beat Donald Trump in 2020, we will beat him again in 2024,” he said. He repeated that message in an emergency meeting with Democratic governors, who pledged their continued support, participants said afterward.
