The BCCI and Narendra Modi’s official social media pages later shared a short video of the meeting session, during which the prime minister asked the players about the World Cup final.
While the BCCI video on X did not provide any details of the conversation, a report in Indian Express revealed that Prime Minister Modi was particularly curious about Rohit’s Novak Djokovic-like act after winning the T20 World Cup trophy. Like the 24-time tennis champion has done after each of his seven Wimbledon titles, Rohit too went to the centre of the Kensington Oval after the final, plucked a few blades of grass from the pitch and ate them. Virat Kohli struggled to score runs in the T20 World Cup, managing to score just 75 runs in the first seven innings to record his worst ever performance in the tournament. But he bounced back in the final to score a match-winning 76 off 59. Prime Minister Modi wanted to know what was going through Kohli's mind heading into the final, given his form. He then asked Axar Patel about his promotion in the batting order, which played a crucial role in India's victory. His counter-attacking knock of 47 helped India bounce back from a top-order collapse and supported Kohli in the middle overs, where he did not score a single boundary.
It should not be forgotten that Suryakumar Yadav was also asked to relive his sensational catch in the last over, which turned out to be the defining moment for India. While David Miller's effort was meant to go for a six, which could have reduced South Africa's equation to 10 required from 5, Suryakumar stepped in at the long-off boundary to take a stunning catch that helped India win the match and the trophy.
