PTI to participate in APC led by PM Shehbaz: Imran Khan

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is ready to participate in the awaited All Parties Conference (APC), party founder Imran Khan said on Friday.

“My party will participate in the all-party conference and hear what the government has to say,” the PTI founder told reporters while appearing in a case at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where he is imprisoned.

The PTI founder, while noting that his party had reservations about the new anti-terrorist action, said it would only “lead to greater instability” in the country.

In response to rising terrorism, the government has launched a reinvigorated and re-energized national counter-terrorism campaign, which will focus on intelligence-led operations.

Khan's comments come after Geo News reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to organise an APC “to win the confidence of political parties” in the recently announced Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.

Prime Minister Shehbaz will hold consultations to decide the date of the APC, the sources said, adding that the date would be announced later.

The federal cabinet last week approved the launch of the anti-terror operation following the recommendations of the National Action Plan Central Committee to intensify pressure on militants targeting Pakistan.

However, opposition parties including PTI, Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Awami National Party (ANP) and others have expressed concerns over the military operation, demanding that the parliament be taken into confidence before taking such a decision.

In response to the criticism, the PMO had clarified that “no large-scale military operation was being launched” in the country.

“The recently announced vision for sustainable stability called Azm-e-Istehkam is misunderstood and mismatched with the previously launched kinetic operations like Zarb-e-Azab, Rah-e-Najaat etc,” read a statement issued by the PMO on June 24.

The federal government further stated that there are no such no-go zones in the country as the ability of terrorist entities to carry out large-scale organised operations inside Pakistan has been significantly degraded by the previous kinetic operations.
