'This is just arrogance talking': Virat Kohli's confession to PM Narendra Modi on his T20 World Cup form

Virat Kohli's form has become a concern for the team in the 2024 T20 World Cup as the star batter managed just 75 runs before the final. However, Kohli delivered when it mattered most, scoring a match-winning 76 in the final against South Africa in Barbados. In a conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kohli opened up about how he had no confidence before the final and how the then head coach Rahul Dravid and India captain Rohit Sharma motivated him.
Kohli also revealed that he had even told Dravid that he was not able to play for the team during the tournament. He also suggested that arrogance had ruined his game during the tournament.
“No matter what I tried, it didn’t work. When you think you can do it, it’s just the arrogance talking. Basically, if your ego comes up, the game leaves you. Sometimes it’s important to let go of that arrogance. There was no scope for arrogance in the final, especially with the way everything went. The moment I started respecting the game, it benefited the team. It was a big lesson for me,” Kohli said.

Kohli also admitted that he was happy to contribute to the team in such an important match.
“We lived every ball at the end, we can’t explain what was happening inside. We lost hope at one point and then Hardik took a wicket and then with every ball we got our energy back. I am happy that I was able to contribute to the team in such a big game after a tough time. I won’t be able to forget it. I was happy that I was able to take the team to a fighting total,” Kohli added.
After helping India lift the trophy, Kohli bid farewell to his T20I career and passed the baton to the next generation.
