Erdogan holds talks with Italian, German, Greek leaders at NATO summit
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed a range of issues, including bilateral relations and Israel's war on Gaza, with NATO leaders including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington DC.
Erdogan held three closed-door meetings with Turkish leaders on Wednesday, discussing bilateral relations and regional and global issues, according to Turkey's communications directorate.
During his meeting with Meloni, Erdogan said that relations between Turkey and Italy will continue to develop through the stages to be taken and that both countries will continue to work for this.
He added that Ankara is doing its best to end tensions in the surrounding region through peace and all countries should make efforts to achieve this.
During his meeting with Mitsotakis, the president stressed that Turkey continues its efforts to develop “the spirit of solidarity” with Greece based on the principle of good neighborliness.
“Efforts must be increased to end the conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine,” Erdogan told Mitsotakis.
The Turkish leader told Scholz that pressure must be put on Israel to end its attacks on Gaza and not miss the opportunity for a ceasefire.
The president told Scholz that Germany expects support to revitalize Turkey's accession process to the European Union.
