South Lampung Working Visit to South Lampung Regency, President Joko Widodo accompanied by Acting. Lampung Governor Samsudin inaugurated the Jokowi Learning Center (JLC) building of South Lampung Regency National High School, Thursday (11/07/2024).
In his speech, President Jokowi stressed the urgency of preparing superior human resources (HR) as part of a strategy to face global competition. Jokowi also emphasized the crucial role of quality education in increasing Indonesia's competitiveness in the international arena.
President Jokowi revealed that although the country's infrastructure has seen rapid development, the quality of human resources remains the main determining factor in global competitiveness ranking.
“Excellent human resources are indispensable in the competition between countries. Our infrastructure may be very good, but if our human resources are not optimal, our ranking will be affected,” Jokowi said.
Jokowi also revealed that Indonesia's competitiveness ranking had risen to 27th position in 2024. However, the president noted that Indonesia still faces challenges in the health and education sectors, each ranking in the 50s.
“In education and health, our ranking is still 57, 58. Even though overall we are ranked 27 in the global competitiveness ranking, we still have homework to do,” President Jokowi said.
On this occasion, the President appreciated the initiative to build schools such as SMA Kebangsaan, which are equipped with facilities and a favorable learning environment. It is hoped that the construction of the Jokowi Learning Center building can be a catalyst in preparing superior and adaptive human resources for technological developments and global innovation.
“We want to become a country that adapts quickly to technology and innovation. Our human resources must be able to master all areas to succeed in the future,” the President added.
In addition to inaugurating the JLC building, President Jokowi also inspected the school's educational facilities and planted mahogany trees as a symbol of commitment to the environment.
Also accompanying the president at the inauguration were Acting Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan, and Acting Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono.
