Jokowi's latest response on IKN switch mentions heavy rains
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) responded to the question of whether or not he would move to the Indonesian capital (IKN) in July. Jokowi said that the IKN construction project had been delayed due to rain.
On June 5, Jokowi said that he would have an office at IKN Nusantara in July, that is, this month. This was expressed when checking the readiness of the ground for the Independence Day ceremony of the Republic of Indonesia.

On July 8, Jokowi was again asked by reporters whether he was certain of having an office at the IKN in July. At that time, he responded with a question.
“Is the water ready or not? Is the electricity ready? Is the place ready or not? If (it is) ready, move,” Jokowi said at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, Monday (8/7).
More recently, Jokowi spoke about the IKN site which is often hit by rain. This condition has delayed the IKN project.
“(About having an office at IKN in July) yes, I saw that earlier, this preparation. If it was ready, yesterday the target was July, but you look at IKN, every day it continues to rain, it rains very heavily so a lot of work has been postponed,” Jokowi said at Indonesian Air Force Base Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta, Tuesday (16/7/2024). Jokowi answered reporters' questions about whether he would have an office at IKN next July.
According to him, work facing setbacks due to weather constraints is common in large projects. IKN, Jokowi explained, is a long-term project.
“IKN was not built in 2 or 3 years, it is a big long-term dream, a long-term project. Maybe 15 to 20 years,” Jokowi stressed.
Jokowi stressed that water and electricity in IKN are being prepared. This preparation, Jokowi explained, takes time.
“Yes, so the water is also being prepared, the electricity will also arrive soon. The electricity is already there, but it takes time to reach the existing rooms,” he continued.
