President Joko Widodo prays at the President Joko Widodo Mosque in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday (17/07)
During his state visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), President Joko Jokowi Widodo visited the President Joko Widodo Mosque in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday (17/07). The visit to the mosque came after UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed him at Qasr Al Watan Palace.
President Jokowi arrived at the mosque at around 2:20 pm local time. He performed a sunnah prayer and then, as imam, led the congregational prayers. Those praying included Minister of the State Secretariat Pratikno, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazrouei, Indonesian Ambassador to the UAE Husin Bagis and UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdullah Salem Al Dhaheri. They then all prayed together, led by Chairman of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments Omar Habtoor Al Darei.
Since his inauguration on December 14, 2023, this is the first time that President Jokowi has visited and prayed at the mosque named after him. It is an honor for his contribution to strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and the UAE, Ambassador Husin Bagis said in his written statement.
Ambassador Husin also said that President Jokowi's visit to the mosque was not only a symbol of honor, but also a reflection of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The visit is also expected to strengthen cooperation in the energy and infrastructure sectors, as well as in promoting moderate Islam.
Ambassador Husin expressed hope that this visit will strengthen the long-standing relations and bring blessings to both nations.
For the record, the President Joko Widodo Mosque is located in the diplomatic district of Abu Dhabi and can accommodate 2,500 people. It was built on a 3,766 square meter plot and funded by the United Arab Emirates. Construction began in November 2021 and was completed in October 2023.
President Joko Widodo Mosque has become a symbol of close relations between Indonesia and the UAE after the inauguration of President Joko Widodo Street in Abu Dhabi. It was reciprocally built by the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Surakarta and the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Elevated Toll Road.
