Chinese President Xi Jinping Pays Tribute to Beijing SG Nguyen Phu Trong

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Vietnamese Embassy in China to pay tribute and write in the condolence book following the death of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.

On the afternoon of July 20, in Beijing, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission of China Xi Jinping visited the Vietnamese Embassy in China to pay tribute, express his sincere condolences and write in the condolence book following the death of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee.

Addressing Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai, Xi Jinping said Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong was a staunch Marxist and a great leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese people. Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong devoted his entire life to the Party, state and people of Vietnam, leading them to make great achievements in building socialism, and received the support and love of the entire Party, army and people of Vietnam.

The Chinese leader said China will always remember Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong's great contributions to promoting the traditional friendship of “comrades and brothers” between the two Parties and the two countries.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China firmly supports the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam in its efforts to unite and firmly lead the Vietnamese people on the path of development. The Chinese Party, State and people consistently uphold and believe that the rejuvenation of Vietnam and the work of building socialism will achieve even greater results. China is ready to join hands with Vietnam in promoting the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and deepening the Vietnam-China community with a shared future and of strategic significance.

Special esteem

For his part, Ambassador Pham Sao Mai expressed his thanks to General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping for coming to pay tribute to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and for his condolences to the Party, State and people of Vietnam. He thanked the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for sending a message of condolence to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam at the earliest opportunity, reflecting the special esteem of the Party, State and people of China and personally of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping for the Vietnam-China relations as well as the special sentiments of Comrade Xi Jinping for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

He stressed that the death of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was a great loss and infinite sadness for the Party, State and people of Vietnam.

The diplomat affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam always regard the development of relations with the Chinese Party, State and people as a top priority and strategic choice. Vietnam continues, together with China, to fully implement the common understanding of the two general secretaries and is ready to work with the Chinese Party, State and people to further develop the healthy, stable and sustainable Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, along the “six plus” orientation, and jointly build a Vietnam-China community with a shared future of strategic significance.

On the same day, the Central Committee, the State Council, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China, as well as some central and Beijing city agencies and organizations also sent wreaths to the Vietnamese Embassy to commemorate General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
