Turkey calls Israeli claims that Erdogan is arming Hamas 'lies'

Turkey on Sunday dismissed as “lies” Israeli accusations that Ankara is arming and funding the Palestinian militant group Hamas, accusing Israel of trying to divert attention from the war in Gaza.
The angry response comes after Israeli Foreign Minister Katz accused President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of “providing weapons and money to Hamas to kill Israelis.”
In a message posted on X in Turkish, Katz claimed that Israeli security services had dismantled “terrorist cells” that were “under the orders of Hamas headquarters in Turkey.”
In response, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said the Israeli foreign minister was “trying to cover up the crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinians behind a series of lies, slander and disrespect.”
“But Israel's dirty propaganda and psychological pressure targeting our country and our president will remain ineffective,” the ministry's statement added.
The Israeli offensive against Hamas has killed at least 38,983 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-controlled territory.
Ankara has been a staunch critic of Israel's conduct of the war, sparked by a bloody Hamas attack on October 7, with Erdogan repeatedly trading criticism with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Dubbing him the “butcher of Gaza,” Erdogan accused Netanyahu of seeking to “expand the war” across the Middle East, a point repeated in the foreign ministry statement.
He accuses “members of Netanyahu's government” of “wanting to provoke a regional war to stay in power”, demanding that they be tried before international courts.
“Turkey will continue to defend the right of the Palestinian people to live in justice and peace,” the foreign ministry added.
