President and Mrs. Iriana review polio vaccine delivery to Jayapura
President Joko Widodo accompanied by Mrs. Iriana Joko Widodo visited Posyandu Rajawali 3, Graha Nendali Complex, Jayapura Regency, Papua Province on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. The visit was made to directly observe polio vaccine administration activities in the context of the National Polio Immunization Week.
“Yes, we must be aware that at present polio outbreaks are occurring again all over the world. Tuberculosis is also increasing, which is why we want to get ahead of areas where the polio vaccine is still low,” the head of state said in his statement to the crew after the inspection.
The President said he had ordered the Ministry of Health and Health Services in each region to administer the polio vaccine. According to the President, it is important to provide the polio vaccine as part of the government's efforts to protect Indonesian children from the threat of polio.
“The Ministry of Health and the Health Service are mobilizing everything to ensure that everyone receives the polio vaccine for our children so that there is no paralysis,” the President said.
On stunting, the President stressed that the government continues to deploy various efforts to reduce the prevalence of stunting in the country. The President said that many factors influence the reduction of stunting.
“Stunting is not just about nutrition, supplementary nutritious foods, but also sanitation, living environment, housing, clean water, all of which need to be well-strengthened. That is what we continue to do,” the President said.
During the inspection, the President and Mrs. Iriana were also seen interacting with the community present to administer polio vaccines to their children. One of them is Abigail, who is very enthusiastic about the polio vaccination program.
“It is very helpful so that children can be protected from this scary virus that has actually entered Indonesia, has already entered Papua, the government program is very helpful and we are very happy and excited,” Abigail said.
Rida also felt the same enthusiasm and admitted that he had benefited from the polio vaccine for his child's growth and development. Rida was also happy to be able to meet President Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana in person.
“It's really fun, especially last year. It's a special pride for us. Visitors came directly to the place where they lived and were visited,” Rida said.
