JAKARTA, BALIPOST.com President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is estimated to take office in the archipelago's capital (IKN) from July 28, 2024.
On the 28th, he plans to inaugurate the Toll and Revision Highway (IKN). “We, together with (the PUPR Ministry) and the Presidential Secretariat, are preparing all the needs for the president to have an office at the IKN,” said Head of the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, quoted by Antara News Agency, Wednesday (24/7).
Heru explained that the Palace, in coordination with the PUPR Ministry, is continuing to prepare the complete infrastructure of the President's Office at the IKN, including meeting its furniture needs. “(The purchase of) tables, furniture, lamps, chairs is underway,” he said.
However, he did not explain whether President Jokowi would continue to have an office at the IKN or whether he would travel back and forth to Jakarta to lead the Indonesian government.
In addition to preparing the President's office, he said, the Presidential Secretariat also continues to finalize all preparations for the commemoration of the 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, which it plans to hold in two locations, namely IKN and Jakarta.
We are of course focusing there on preparing all the infrastructure for August 17. “So after the 28th, maybe he (President Jokowi) will visit IKN several times before August 17 because there are still a series of activities (commemorating independence),” Heru said.
Regarding the details of the series of events for Indonesian Independence Day, Heru said the government will soon hold a press conference in late July.
So far, the 79th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia is scheduled to begin with the national commemoration on August 1, 2024, and then continue with a number of other agendas, including the conferring of honors by the President of the Republic of Indonesia on August 15, 2024.
President Jokowi had previously said he was ready to open an office in IKN, East Kalimantan, as soon as possible if there was a green light or signs of readiness.
He conveyed this in a press release after watching the opening match of the President's Cup at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung Regency, West Java, Friday (19/7).
