Indonesia launches Golden Visa for foreign investors and global talents
Jakarta, July 25 Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Thursday launched the Golden Visa Indonesia program, aimed at simplifying the process for foreigners seeking residence permits to invest and work in Indonesia.
In his speech at the launching ceremony in Jakarta, Widodo said the Golden Visa would allow more good-quality travelers to invest and be productive while staying in the Southeast Asian country.
“Indonesia is expected to be a promising investment destination, a destination for global talent. The Golden Visa will have a huge multiplier effect for the country, starting from capital gains, employment opportunities, technology transfer, to improving the quality of human resources,” he said, adding that the special visa should only be granted to selected candidates.
The Golden Visa offers exclusive benefits to its holders, comparable to a second residence visa, Xinhua news agency reported.
These benefits include extended periods of stay, simplified entry and exit procedures, and efficiency by eliminating the need to apply for a limited stay visa at immigration offices. Eligible beneficiaries include international investors, businessmen, global talents, and certain foreign travelers.
Foreign investors who meet specific investment criteria can obtain a residence permit in Indonesia for five to ten years through the Golden Visa program.
Mr. Widodo stressed the importance of carefully selecting candidates, ensuring that only those who have proven their contribution receive this special visa. State security and national interests remain primary considerations in the selection process.
