Aniston has no children and has spoken about her attempts to get pregnant through IVF

Jennifer Aniston has slammed Donald Trump's running mate JD Vance over his resurfaced comments calling Democrats “a bunch of women with no children and miserable lives.”

The Friends actress, 55, posted a 2021 interview with Mr. Vance that has been widely shared since his selection as Mr. Trump's running mate for the November presidential election.

“I really can’t believe this is coming from a potential Vice President of the United States,” she wrote on Instagram.

“All I can say, Mr. Vance, is that I pray that your daughter will be lucky enough to have children of her own someday.”

Mr. Vance has a two-year-old daughter and two sons.

“I hope she doesn't need to turn to IVF as a second option,” Aniston wrote.

“Because you’re trying to take that away from him too.”

The actress has previously spoken openly about her struggles to have children through in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Last month, Mr. Vance voted to block legislation proposed by Democrats to ensure access to IVF nationwide.

Before the vote, Mr. Vance and the 48 other Republican senators signed a letter saying they supported IVF but that the Democratic bill was too broad and “falsely alarmist.”

In the clip, Mr. Vance criticizes Vice President Kamala Harris for not having any biological children.

Mrs. Harris is stepmother to her husband Doug Emhoff's two children.

But Mr Vance told former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that the US was run by “a bunch of childless women who are unhappy in their own lives and the choices they've made, and so they want to make the rest of the country unhappy too”.

“How is it possible that we have entrusted our country to people who have no real vested interest in it?”

Kamala Harris' daughter-in-law, Ella Emhoff, posted a reaction to Mr. Vance's comments on Instagram on Thursday.

How can you be childless when you have adorable kids like Cole and me? wrote the 25-year-old daughter of Harris' husband, Doug Emhoff, and his ex-wife, Kerstin Emhoff. Cole Emhoff is her 29-year-old brother.

The BBC has contacted the Trump-Vance campaign team for comment.

“A heartbreaking setback”

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg also responded to those comments earlier this week, speaking about adopting twins with his husband, Chasten.

“What's really sad is he said that after Chasten and I had gone through a pretty heartbreaking setback in our adoption journey,” Buttigieg told CNN's The Source.

“He couldn't have known – but maybe that's why we shouldn't talk about other people's children.”

Fans of singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who has no children – and three cats – also reacted negatively.

“It's bold for someone looking to win votes to focus on 'childless cat ladies' when the leader of those ladies is Taylor Swift,” British writer Caitlin Moran wrote on X.

Another X user shared the Time magazine cover of Swift posing with one of her cats, writing: “Hell hath no fury like a certain childless cat lady who has yet to endorse a presidential candidate.”

In 2022, Aniston told Allure that she wished someone had told her to freeze her eggs.

“It was a difficult journey for me, having a baby,” she said.

“All those years and years of speculation… it was really hard.

“I had IVF, I drank Chinese tea, you name it.”

But she had “no regrets.”

“I would have given anything if someone had said to me, 'Freeze your eggs. Treat yourself.' I don't think about it. So here I am today,” she told the magazine.

“The ship has set sail.”
