Meloni is meeting the Chinese leader at a rather favourable time, given that in recent days the Chinese government has hosted Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, gaining points in the West for its position on the war. For Xi, meeting Meloni at this time has above all a symbolic value, given that Italy still holds the presidency of the G7.
