PM Modi to address World Agricultural Economists Conference on Saturday

New Delhi [India]August 2 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 32nd International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE) on Saturday morning at the National Agricultural Science Centre (NASC) complex in New Delhi.
The Prime Minister will also address the participants on this occasion, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office said.
The triennial conference, organized by the International Association of Agricultural Economists, will be held from August 2 to 7, 2024. ICAE is being held in India after 65 years.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Transformation towards sustainable agri-food systems”.
Its aim is to address the urgent need for sustainable agriculture in the face of global challenges such as climate change, degradation of natural resources, rising production costs and conflicts.
The conference will highlight India's proactive approach to global agricultural challenges and showcase the country's advancements in agricultural research and policy.
“ICAE 2024 will serve as a platform for young researchers and leading professionals to showcase their work and network with global peers. It aims to strengthen partnerships between research institutions and academia, influence policymaking at national and global levels, and showcase India’s agricultural progress, including advances in digital agriculture and sustainable agri-food systems,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in the statement.
The conference will be attended by around 1,000 delegates from nearly 75 countries, the PMO statement added.
The International Conference of Agricultural Economists, held every three years, provides a unique platform for academic institutions and agricultural researchers to meet in person, exchange knowledge, and actively contribute to the global agricultural research community. This flagship conference of the International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE) attracts approximately one thousand delegates from around the world. The IAAE has members from around the world, agricultural economists, and others interested in agricultural economic issues, organized to promote the application of agricultural economics to the improvement of rural economic and social conditions.
According to the ICAE website, ICAE 2024 will address pressing questions on how to make agri-food systems more sustainable, with a focus on the important role of agricultural economists in addressing these interdisciplinary challenges. The conference will feature invited papers and contributions and sessions on topics such as healthy and sustainable diets, technological and institutional innovations, agroecology, gender roles and social equity in agri-food systems, environmental and social externalities of value chains, the true cost of food, and the bioeconomy, among others.
