Trump agrees to debate Harris on Fox News on September 4

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he will debate Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on Fox News on September 4, in a post on Truth Social Friday night, though the Harris campaign has not confirmed the event.

“The rules will be similar to my debate with Sleepy Joe, who was treated horribly by his party, but with a full arena audience,” Trump said, referring to President Joe Biden, who has since dropped out of re-election.

Harris' campaign said it had no comment. Fox News did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump's statement comes just after the Democratic National Committee launched an ad campaign Friday taunting him by saying that “convicted felon is afraid to debate” and questioning whether that was because of his stance on abortion.

After Biden withdrew from the race on July 21 and endorsed Harris, Trump said he would not debate her because she was not the official nominee.

On Friday, Harris won the delegate votes needed to clinch the Democratic nomination.

Trump's post was deleted for a few minutes before being reposted, with Trump deleting his offer to hold a “major” town hall meeting on the same date if Harris was “unwilling or unable to debate.”

Harris responded last month that she was “ready” after Fox News proposed a presidential debate between the two candidates on September 17.

Trump said the debate would be held in Pennsylvania, the nation's key swing state, in front of a “full audience.” The first and only debate this year between Trump and Biden was not held in front of a local audience.
