Jokowi inaugurates lithium battery anode materials factory in Kendal, Central Java

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated PT Indonesia's BTR New Energy Materials lithium battery anode materials plant in Kendal, Central Java. Jokowi appreciated the speed of the plant's construction, which was agreed only 10 months ago.
“I really appreciate the speed of construction of this factory. Just 10 months ago, we signed it in Beijing, and suddenly the factory was ready,” said Jokowi seen on YouTube of the Presidential Secretariat, Wednesday (8/7/2024).
Jokowi appreciated the speed with which the government followed through on the plans to build the plant. According to him, at this speed, Indonesia will continue to beat other countries.

“This is called speed: a fast country will beat a slow country and we are now a fast country,” he said.
Jokowi then said that Indonesia's dream of building an electric vehicle ecosystem was beginning to come true with the construction of a number of factories. He explained the pros and cons of this policy.
“The project that we decided several years ago to build one by one a vast ecosystem of electric vehicles is beginning to seem real and already exists in our country, Indonesia. Starting with nickel, which we have stopped exporting. raw materialin 2020 and at that time many people were against it in our own country because at the beginning we had lost about 1.5 million euros. billion US dollars, or 20 trillion rupees,” he said.
Jokowi believes that the added value of exports will increase with the construction of an electric vehicle factory.
“But at that time, I thought that if we stopped, the added value would increase, as Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said. Today, the value of our nickel exports is already 34 billion US dollars,” he said.
“From the previous Rp 33 trillion, it has increased to around Rp 510 trillion. A very big jump,” Jokowi continued.
