Erdogan reiterates call on international community to stop growing Israeli aggression
On Thursday, the Trkiyes chairman reiterated his call for the international community to intervene and prevent the escalation of Israeli aggression, warning that this could lead to a wider and more devastating conflict in the region, News.Az reports citing Anadolu Agency.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who met in the Turkish capital Ankara with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, said that Israel was trying to escalate tensions in the region through its attacks on the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, the country's communications directorate said.
Erdogan also urged the international community to take effective measures to stop the recently intensified Israeli aggression, he added.
Erdogan and Al Thani met at the presidential complex in Ankara.
President Erdogan said that Israel's assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh once again demonstrated its lack of intention to commit to a ceasefire, he added.
Israel has not claimed responsibility for the assassination, which took place last week in Tehran, but Iran has vowed retaliation.
Stating that Turkey is making efforts to bring lasting peace to the region, Erdogan expressed Ankara's intention to strengthen collaborative efforts with Doha to achieve results.
During the meeting, Erdogan and Al Thani also discussed relations between the two nations as well as global and regional issues.
Expressing Turkey's full commitment to advancing its cooperation with Qatar in economic relations, as well as in political, military, commercial and cultural fields, the Turkish president said the next steps will strengthen solidarity between the two countries.
