PM Modi's meeting with young landslide survivor gains momentum
KALPETTA: A heartwarming video from Wayanad showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi offering comfort and warmth to a young landslide survivor has been doing the rounds on the internet. The now viral video shows Modi engaging in a tender exchange with Naisa (Rubia), a three-year-old who lost almost everything in the recent landslide disaster.
During his visit to the affected areas of Wayanad, Prime Minister Modi stopped at Moopens Medical College, where he met Naisa. The video captures the emotional moment when Naisa, standing on a bed, greeted him with a traditional namaste. The PM, visibly moved, reciprocated the gesture by joining his hands and extending his hand for a handshake, which the girl accepted without hesitation.
As the interaction unfolded, Naisa climbed onto the bed next to Prime Minister Modi and started playing with his chin and glasses, a moment that won the hearts of viewers around the world. Despite being asked to move the child, Prime Minister Modi responded warmly by saying, “No, no, let her sit here,” and continued to interact with her, cooing and cuddling her.
Naisa’s mother, Jaseela, recounted the harrowing events that led to their current situation. She lost her husband, two other children and their home in the landslide, with Naisa being the only one she was able to save. That night, as floodwaters rushed into their home, Jaseela clung to Naisa, managing to escape the deadly mud and debris.
“We never expected the Prime Minister to come near us and interact with my child and play with him,” said Jaseela, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital. “Even though we are going through a difficult time, the comfort and encouragement extended to our family by the Prime Minister is a blessing,” she added.
Additionally, Modi took time to speak with other landslide victims, offering them words of encouragement and comfort.
At a review meeting held in the wake of the disaster, he stressed the Centre's support to Kerala, promising that all necessary resources would be provided to help the state in its reconstruction efforts. He conveyed a strong message of solidarity, saying, “I want to assure the families of the deceased that they are not alone. We are all with them. The central government is supporting the Kerala government and we will ensure that no work is hampered due to lack of money.”
