PM Modi hails indomitable spirit of para-athletes as India wins 29 medals in best-ever campaign
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed the indomitable spirit of para athletes as India won a total of 29 medals at the Paris Paralympics. India had its best-ever campaign at the 2024 edition of the Paralympics, winning seven gold, nine silver and 13 bronze medals.
This includes the number of medals won by India in the history of the competition.
The 2024 Paralympic Games have been special and historic. India is delighted that our incredible para athletes have won 29 medals, which is the best ever performance since India's debut at the Games. This achievement is due to the unwavering dedication and indomitable spirit of our athletes. India surpassed its previous record at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, where it won 19 medals, including five gold, eight silver and six bronze.
In the recent Paralympics, India not only surpassed this impressive tally but also crossed the 50-medal mark in the history of the competition.
The feat was made possible by a delegation of 84 para-athletes, competing in 12 disciplines from August 28 to Sunday, a significant increase from the nine sports represented in Tokyo.
India notably expanded its participation to include new events such as para-cycling, para-rowing and blind judo, setting several records and achieving new milestones in the process.
