The opening ceremony of the PON in Banda Aceh was festive, opened by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo
POPULARITAS.COM – The 21st opening ceremony of the Aceh-North Sumatra PON was lively. The opening, which took place at the Harapan Bangsa Stadium (SHB) in Banda Aceh, was immediately attended by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.
The event began with entertainment featuring three local artists, namely the Tangke and Apache groups, before being interrupted due to the Maghreb call to prayer.
After the Maghreb break, the event continued with performances by Acehnese singers Liza Aulia, Zulpase and the Gita Handayani brass band.
President Joko Widodo arrived at Harapan Bangsa Stadium at 20:00 WIB.
The event then entered the official part with the singing of the song Indonesia Raya by Tiara Andini, the Aceh anthem and Mars PON.
The event continued with a colossal dance performance involving 873 dancers with the theme Aceh Teuka.
This colossal dance is divided into several parts to tell the story of Aceh's cultural traditions, Aceh's natural beauty and the fighting spirit of the Acehnese people, symbolized by the presence of the figure of Admiral Malahayati.
Before the parade of athletes from all participating provinces plus an authority from the Indonesian capital (IKN), the little qori Muhammad Ahsin first recited the sacred verses of the Quran, Surah Al-Imran verses 133-134.
The parade of athletes was in alphabetical order, so that it started from Banten, then Bali, Bengkulu, before ending with the two host contingents, North Sumatra and Aceh.
When reading the athlete's commitment, national athlete Veddriq Leonardo mistakenly mentioned PON Aceh and North Sumatra as PON Aceh and South Sumatra.
President Jokowi then officially read a welcoming speech which emphasized the message of sportsmanship they truly maintain with the athletes.
During the cauldron lighting session, Malahayati's figure came to President Jokowi to receive the rencong.
The figure of Malahayati then accompanied the PON fire bearers, until they were received by the athlete who lit the fire in the cauldron, Nurul Akmal.
After the cauldron lighting session, the event ended with performances by singers Tiara Andini and Virzha, as well as the lighting of several fireworks to liven up the atmosphere.
PON 2024 will be the first PON to be held simultaneously in two provinces.
At least 13,000 people will participate in 1,042 events in 65 sports and 87 disciplines, in 20 districts and cities in Aceh and North Sumatra until September 20.
Four new autonomous regions (DOBs), including Southwest Papua, Hill Papua, Central Papua and South Papua, made their PON debuts, alongside the Indonesian Capital Region (IKN) contingent.
