Imran Khan defends KP chief minister, urges PTI to root out ‘cowards’ who apologised for Gandapur
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding leader Imran Khan has defended the controversial remarks made by Ali Amin Gandapur and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister which recently embarrassed him.
Speaking about the KP CM's inflammatory remarks, Khan claimed that Gandapur had merely expressed the “sentiments of the nation”.
“Party members who apologised for Gandapur remarks are weak cowards, they should not stay in PTI,” Imran Khan said.
Imran Khan also said that the establishment has deceived them and is closing the doors to negotiations with all parties from today.
Speaking informally to reporters at Adiala Jail, he said that from today onwards he was instructing his party not to engage in any discussions with the establishment.
The establishment has deceived us and, as of today, I close the doors to negotiations with the establishment and with any other party.
He mentioned that he allowed six party leaders to negotiate with the establishment, but he never prevented anyone from engaging in dialogue.
The date and name of the September 8 rally was provided by the establishment, and whether we get permission or not, we will hold the rally in Lahore on September 21.
Responding to Faisal Vawda's allegations of his involvement in the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif, the former PTI chief denied any wrongdoing and called for an open trial to reveal the truth.
“Everyone knows on whose behalf Faisal Vawda speaks.”
Imran Khan claimed that Faisal Vawda was following him everywhere, trying to arrange a meeting with General Faisal Naseer.
He pointed out that in this country, a person armed with a stick takes decisions and these decisions become laws. Imran Khan added that only democracy and rule of law can save the nation. He also mentioned that he had no knowledge of the agreement reached between the government and the IMF.
Noting that apart from lawyer Ali Zafar, no other party leader had come to meet him at Adiala Jail today, Imran Khan appeared visibly upset during his informal conversation with reporters.
KP Chief Minister under fire for 'derogatory' remarks
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has been criticised for his tirade against journalists, his language against his Punjab counterpart Maryam Nawaz and for targeting state institutions during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) show of power in Islamabad.
“If the PTI founder is not released legally within one to two weeks, we will get him released ourselves,” the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister said at Sunday's event, announcing in his usual tone that a rally would be held in Lahore in the face of all obstacles or restrictions.
Several federal ministers and senators have condemned the fiery leader of the main opposition party.
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said those who are “hollow inside” can only issue threats.[He is] “I am challenging a woman while standing on stage, while being afraid of terrorists,” the minister said while condemning the KP government's “failure” to control the rise of militancy in the province.
Journalists also staged protests at the Senate and National Assembly on Monday after Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur made shocking remarks about the media during last night's rally, calling them “sellouts” and “brokers”.
In response, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan tendered an unconditional apology on behalf of the KP chief minister.
“We respect the entire journalist community,” Gohar said. “I unconditionally apologise for any hurt caused by the prime minister’s remarks, which were aimed at only a few journalists.”
He clarified that the speech was political, adding: “We have no intention of escalating tensions. If we wanted to do justice we could have done it now. There is immense public pressure for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.”
Opposition leader Omar Ayub, accompanied by lawyer Gohar, went to the media gallery to apologize. However, journalists had demanded a direct apology from Ali Amin Gandapur.
