Imran: “We should no longer discuss with the authorities”

ISLAMABAD: PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan on Tuesday shut down talks with all parties, including the establishment, signalling a tougher stance amid the ongoing political turmoil.

Speaking to the media at Adiala Jail after attending the hearing of Toshakhana-II case, he revealed that six party leaders had earlier been allowed to talk to the establishment.

Imran stressed that he never banned anyone from holding negotiations. He said the authorities had misled them and he was closing the door to negotiations with all parties.

“We have been deceived,” the PTI founder said, expressing frustration over the current political climate. He also confirmed that the party will go ahead with its rally in Lahore scheduled for September 21, regardless of any permissions or restrictions imposed by the government.

Imran strongly supported Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, saying he had expressed the sentiments of the nation. “I support Ali Amin Gandapur,” Imran insisted, calling those who sought to distance themselves from Gandapur’s remarks cowards.

They should not be with us, they should leave the party, the former prime minister said, referring to those who apologised for the Gandapur statements. He singled out Faisal Vawda, calling him a mere spokesperson.

The PTI founder also reiterated his demand for an open trial in the Arshad Sharif murder case, calling for transparency and justice.

Meanwhile, Judge Nasir Javed Rana of the Special Accountability Court adjourned the hearing of the Al-Qadir Trust reference related to the Rs 190 million financial scandal involving Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi due to the absence of the accused's lawyers on Tuesday.
