Donald Trump criticizes Taylor Swift for supporting Kamala Harris

Donald Trump called into Fox & Friends the day after his first presidential debate against Kamala Harris and weighed in on Taylor Swift's support for his opponent's campaign. The music icon officially endorsed Harris for president within a half-hour of the debate ending. Swift also criticized Trump for using a false image of her to make it appear that she was endorsing him.

“I actually much prefer Mrs. Mahomes. If you want to know the truth, she’s a big Trump fan. I wasn’t a Taylor Swift fan,” Trump said when asked about Swift’s support for Harris. “It was just a matter of time. We couldn’t support Biden. But she’s a very liberal person. She always seems to support a Democrat and she’ll probably pay the price in the marketplace. But I like Brittany. Brittany’s great. She’s my favorite person over Taylor Swift, by far. The wife of the great quarterback. I think she’s great.”

Brittany Mahomes is married to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Patrick is a close friend and teammate of Travis Kelce, who is Swift's boyfriend. Swift and Brittany were photographed hugging and being friendly with each other at the US Open earlier this month, which sparked controversy on social media since Brittany is a Trump supporter and Swift had yet to endorse a candidate.

In her endorsement of Kamala Harris, Swift praised the current vice president, writing that she “fights for rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to defend. I think she is a gifted and steady leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are guided by calm and not chaos.”

“I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election,” Swift continued. “I am voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to defend. I believe she is a gifted and determined leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are guided by calm and not chaos. I was very encouraged and impressed by the choice of her running mate Tim Walz, who has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s right to control their own bodies for decades.”

Walz responded to Swift's support by writing that he was “incredibly grateful.” He encouraged Swift's fans to visit Harris' website to learn more about how to support the campaign.
