Trump suggests Taylor Swift will 'pay a price' for supporting Harris

Donald Trump has responded to Taylor Swift's endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris after the presidential debate, suggesting on Fox News this morning that the pop sensation's career will be impacted by his decision to back her rival in the tight race for the White House.

Swift broke her silence on the 2024 US presidential election almost immediately after the end of Tuesday night's debate between former President Trump and Harris. The singer-songwriter, who has an unprecedentedly devoted fan base, wrote to her 283 million Instagram followers that there was a clear choice in the upcoming election after watching both presidential candidates perform in Philadelphia. Appearing on Fox & Friends on Wednesday morning, Trump dismissed Swift's potentially powerful endorsement.

“I wasn’t a Taylor Swift fan,” Trump told the hosts. “It was just a matter of time. She couldn’t support Biden… But she’s a very liberal person. She always seems to support a Democrat, and she’ll probably pay the price in the marketplace.”

Trump then praised football player Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, for liking one of his posts on X (formerly Twitter). Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, is the Chiefs' tight end.

In her message of support, Swift also mentioned a recent example of a deepfake, created with artificial intelligence, of her image telling the world that she supported Trump, not Harris.

“I recently learned that an AI of “me” falsely endorsing Donald Trump for president was posted on his website. This really reignited my fears about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It led me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my real plans for this election as a voter,” she wrote in her post. “The easiest way to combat misinformation is to tell the truth.”

Swift, who avoided political discourse for years before launching into campaigning in 2018 with considerable success, concluded by urging her fans to register to vote. “I did my research and I made my choice. Your research is yours and the choice is yours. I also want to say, especially to new voters: remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it much easier to vote early,” she wrote. “I will link to where to register and find early voting dates and information in my story.”

“With love and hope, Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady,” the pop sensation concluded, referencing past comments made by Trump’s vice president-elect JD Vance about women who don’t have children.

In 2018, Trump also fired Swift after she endorsed two Democratic candidates in the state of Tennessee, saying: “Let's say I like Taylor's music about 25 percent less now, OK?”

On Wednesday morning, Trump also said on Fox & Friends that ABC News debate moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis had been unfair to him and that the debate was “three to one.” He also said he was “less inclined” to debate Harris again. Meanwhile, Harris’s team has continued to call for another debate, indicating that they are confident she won the debate, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday morning.

In her post-debate statement, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Harris-Walz campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon asked, in part: “In the spotlight, the American people saw the choice they will face at the ballot box this fall: whether to move forward with Kamala Harris or move backward with Trump. That's what they saw tonight and what they should see in a second debate in October. Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?”
