Imran Khan's acquittal plea rejected in 190 million referral

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court on Thursday rejected the plea seeking acquittal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in a $190 million settlement, ARY News reported.

According to details, accountability court judge Nasir Javed Rana heard arguments from both sides in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi before rejecting the plea.

Imran Khan's lawyer argued that Al-Qadir University was a trust and his client had not derived any personal benefit from it and was not involved in the university's financial transactions.

The NAB prosecutor, however, responded that the PTI founder had not disclosed the real facts regarding the 190 million to the government. He alleged that the government had been kept in the dark about it and the plea for acquittal was not admissible.

Earlier, an accountability court had reserved its verdict on a plea filed by PTI founder Imran Khan's wife Bushra Bibi seeking acquittal in a $190 million settlement case.

The accountability court judge conducted the hearing inside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi and reserved his verdict after hearing arguments from both sides.

NCA case

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched an investigation against Imran Khan, his wife and others for allegedly gaining hundreds of kanals of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, which allegedly caused a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer.

The charges allege that the former prime minister and other defendants embezzled 50 billion rupees, or £190 million, sent to the government by the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) at the time.

The NAB has filed a corruption case against Imran and seven others, including his wife, in connection with Al-Qadir University.

The PTI leader registered the Trust for Al-Qadir University project on December 26, 2019.
