In Interview With X, Trump Discusses Apparent Assassination AttemptExBulletin

In an interview on the social media platform X, former President Donald Trump spoke publicly for the first time about the apparent assassination attempt foiled by US intelligence on Sunday.

The interview, which focused on his sons' new cryptocurrency initiative and was conducted by a crypto influencer, veered toward many of Trump's typical campaign talking points.

He began by praising the Secret Service, saying they did a “great job” Sunday protecting him during the incident while he was golfing at his West Palm Beach, Fla., course. He said he heard four to five gunshots and was whisked away in a golf cart.

He joked that he “would have loved to have holed that last putt.”

He described how a Secret Service agent noticed the barrel of a gun in the bushes surrounding the course and began shooting. He then described the arrest of the suspected shooter, who authorities said did not fire his weapon.

Trump also referred to an assassination attempt against him in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July. He said Sunday's attempt was a “much better outcome” because there was no loss of life, as in July, when one man was killed and two others were injured, with the exception of Trump who suffered an ear injury.

He also recalled a conversation with President Biden on Monday, saying he was “very nice” on the call and that Biden asked if Trump needed more people on his team.

“We need more people on my team because we have 50,000 to 60,000 people attending events,” Trump said.

“And he couldn’t have been nicer,” Trump added of Biden. Trump has been sharply critical of the Biden administration’s policies, as well as Biden and Vice President Harris personally, as is typical of his campaign appearances.

The statement comes after Trump blamed Biden and Harris' “rhetoric” for the apparent assassination attempt on him in a Fox News interview. In a post on X, he called Harris a “hateful person.”

Trump has often used inflammatory language in his public remarks.

His running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, repeated that Monday night on the campaign trail at the Faith and Freedom Coalition's Georgia Victory Dinner in Atlanta.

“No one has tried to kill Kamala Harris in the last two months and two people have tried to kill Donald Trump in the last two months,” Vance said. “I would say that’s pretty strong evidence that the left needs to tone down its rhetoric and stop this bullshit.”
