Imran rejects PTI chief spokesperson's statement on holding talks with establishment

Terming Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf spokesperson Raoof Hasan's statement as a “misunderstanding”, incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan ruled out the possibility of holding talks with the establishment.

The spokesperson of the former ruling party said a dialogue between his party and the establishment was inevitable and the PTI was willing to do so.

Speaking to reporters at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail on Thursday, the PTI founder said there was no point in entering into negotiations with the establishment.

The cricketer-turned-politician said Hasan had a misunderstanding, adding that he had given a clear message after the Islamabad Power Show that his party would not hold talks with anyone.

Before Khan's statement, the PTI spokesperson had told a private TV channel that the party founded by Imran was ready yesterday to start talks with the establishment and was ready for this exercise again today .

“It is the policy of PTI that we want to engage with the establishment and I will go a step forward by saying that dialogue between my party and the establishment is inevitable for this state and we should not delay it “, argued Hasan.

He advocated initiation of dialogue so that solutions to the country's problems and challenges could be found and Pakistan could move forward.

He disagreed with the speaker that currently the policy of the establishment is not to engage with the PTI and added that they engaged with his party and why he should not not hope that they will engage again.

Hasan, however, maintained that an enabling environment should be created for which both sides should make efforts.

Earlier this month, Khan closed his doors to negotiations with all parties, including the establishment, signaling a hardened stance amid the current political turmoil.

He also claimed that the establishment had deceived them and was closing the doors to negotiations with all parties.

Meanwhile, in another development today, Hasan was replaced by Sheikh Waqas Akram as PTI's central information secretary.

The former PTI information secretary has now been appointed head of the party's policy think tank on the directives of the party founder, according to a notification issued today.
