Former President Donald Trump is winning over Vice President Kamala Harris in two key states, according to a new survey whose pollster is ranked the most accurate.

With less than six weeks before the presidential election, the ability of candidates to influence voters is at stake. Harris, the Democratic candidate, performed well in Michigan and Wisconsin, two key states for an electoral victory, but the races are tightening.

According to the latest New York Times/Siena College polls, Harris has 48% of Michigan voters, while Trump is slightly behind with 47%, well within the poll's margin of error.

In Wisconsin, Harris is ahead of Trump by only 2 points (49 to 47%). However, Wisconsin polls have historically overestimated support for Democrats.

The Times/Siena polls were conducted September 21-26 and surveyed 688 likely voters in Michigan and 680 likely voters in Wisconsin. Each poll has a margin of error of approximately plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Newsweek contacted the Harris and Trump campaigns via email for comment Saturday morning.

Polling aggregator FiveThirtyEight ranks Times/Siena polls highest for accuracy, impartiality and transparency.

FiveThirtyEight currently has Harris leading Trump by 2.7 points (48.6 to 45.9 percent) in Michigan, according to polling averages, which examine candidates' results in multiple polls.

In Wisconsin, Harris leads Trump by 2.1 points (48.8 to 46.7%), according to FiveThirtyEight polling averages.

Nationally, Harris is ahead of Trump again, leading the former president 48.6 to 45.7 percent, a difference of 2.9 points.

Although national polls are useful in gauging what the general American public thinks of each candidate and therefore what the popular vote might be, candidates do not win the presidency by popular vote. To become president, a candidate must win at least 270 electoral votes, distributed by state based on the number of representatives and senators, in what is known as the electoral college system.

How are candidates doing in other Swing States?

Trump leads Harris by 0.9 points in Georgia (48.3 to 47.4 percent) and in North Carolina by 0.4 points (47.8 to 47.4 percent), according to FiveThirtyEight polling averages. He also leads Arizona's vice president by 1.3 points (48 to 46.7 percent).

Harris leads Trump by 1 point in Nevada (47.8 to 46.8 percent) and in Pennsylvania by 1.3 points (48.2 to 46.9 percent).

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
