JAMMU/NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi wooed voters here on Saturday, saying that for the first time, the formation of a full majority BJP government aligned with the “long suppressed” aspirations of the people of Jammu is a certainty and that voters in the region should not miss this opportunity.
“This election will deliver a historic verdict, allowing the people of Jammu to choose their own government for the first time,” the Prime Minister said, highlighting the slogan “Jammu Ki Yahi Pukar, Aa Rahi Bhajpa Sarakar”, which resonated with the crowd. Addressing a rally at the packed Maulana Azad Stadium here, Prime Minister Modi said: “It is clear that the BJP, for the first time, will form a government with its own majority. He will be sensitive to the interests of Jammu region which were ignored all these decades. This will mark a historic opportunity and you should not let it pass you by. »
The Prime Minister's remarks reflect the growing view in BJP circles that the trend so far has shown that Valley-based parties – National Conferencewhich has the Congress as an ally, and the PDP – will not get enough seats to form the government.
Asserting that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have realized that only the BJP can end their miseries and realize their dreams, Prime Minister Modi said, “In the first two phases of the assembly election which took place on September 18 and 25, people voted for the BJP because they were fed up with the dynastic rule in J&K.”
“The people of J&K are tired of violence and bloodshed. They want to live in peace and see development, which only BJP can bring,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi also exploited widespread resentment in the Jammu region over getting raw deals in dispensations dominated by the NC, its ally the Congress and the PDP. He accused the three parties of engaging in “appeasement politics” and said they could do anything for it.
