Comedian Bill Maher said Friday that former President Donald Trump is “definitely going to lose” in this year's presidential election.

With less than six weeks until the election in which Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, faces Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, the race is tightening.

In an overtime segment on the HBO show Real Time with Bill Maher, during a panel featuring writer Fran Lebowitz, Israeli historian Yuval Noah Harari and political consultant Ian Bremmer, Maher said he wasn't worried about Trump winning the presidency because he's “definitely going to lose.”

“It seems like the time, the interval between when we repeat the mistake is getting shorter and shorter. I mean Trump was president only four years ago and we seem to have complete amnesia about what that meant.” , Maher said.

Bremmer chimed in: “We still don’t know if we’re going to repeat this mistake.”

However, Maher dismissed the argument and said: “That's not the case. I've already put my bearings on that… It doesn't even worry me.”

“You’re not even worried about that?” » asked Lebowitz.

Maher stood firm on his stance and said, “No, not at all. Yeah, no, no, no, he's definitely going to lose. You feel it,” adding that even though he had previously predicted it, the polls will remain tight even though on election day.

Newsweek reached out to Trump and Harris' campaign via email for comment.

Maher, a Trump critic, also said Friday that the former president “knows he's losing and he's losing to a woman,” referring to Trump's previous remarks on Truth Social in which he said women would be “happy and great again” if he wins in November.

The former president made the remark in a lengthy post on Truth Social, his social media platform, last week.

“WOMEN ARE POORER THAN THEY WERE FOUR YEARS AGO, ARE LESS HEALTHY THAN THEY WERE FOUR YEARS AGO, ARE LESS SAFE ON THE STREETS THAN THEY WERE FOUR YEARS AGO AT FOUR YEARS OLD, ARE MORE DEPRESSED AND UNHAPPIER THAN THEY WERE FOUR YEARS AGO, AND ARE LESS OPTIMISTIC AND CONFIDENT IN THE FUTURE THAN THEY WERE FOUR YEARS AGO!” Trump wrote, before to say that he would “fix it all”.

“WOMEN WILL BE HAPPY, HEALTHY, CONFIDENT AND FREE!” he added. He went on to say that women's lives would improve because abortion would return to the state decision-making level, with exceptions for cases of rape, incest and life of the mother, while opposing late-term abortions. He also promised unprecedented protections for women, ensuring their health, safety and well-being.

In response to Truth Social's post, Harris-Walz 2024 spokesperson Sarafina Chitika previously told Newsweek that “Trump may think he can control women and tell us what to think, but women don't They're not stupid.”

She added: “Women hear his threat that we 'won't think about abortion again' and know it's just his way of trying to fool people about his 2025 plan to ban abortion.” nationally. Trump is scared to death that women will vote as if our freedoms and lives are on the line in November – and he should, because that's exactly what we will do.

Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung previously told Newsweek: “Kamala Harris is a blithe idiot who has no idea other than to throw the country off the cliff. She is not qualified and everyone knows it.”

Maher's remarks come as national polls have shown the two candidates neck and neck or narrowly ahead. On Saturday, Harris led Trump, leading the former president 48.6 to 45.7 percent, a difference of 2.9 points, according to poll aggregator FiveThirtyEight.

Although national polls are useful in gauging what the general American public thinks of each candidate and therefore what the popular vote might be, battleground states will play a key role in determining the outcome of this year's elections thanks to the Electoral College, which awards each state. a certain number of electoral votes based on population. A presidential candidate must receive 270 electoral votes to win, and winning the national popular vote does not guarantee success. Surveys in battleground states could be more revealing than national polls.

According to the latest polls from the New York Times and Siena College, Trump is winning over Harris in two key states.

According to polls released Saturday, Harris has 48% of the vote in Michigan, while Trump is slightly behind with 47%, well within the poll's margin of error. In Wisconsin, Harris is ahead of Trump by only 2 points (49 to 47%). However, Wisconsin polls have historically overestimated support for Democrats.

The Times/Siena polls were conducted September 21-26 and surveyed 688 likely voters in Michigan and 680 likely voters in Wisconsin. Each poll has a margin of error of approximately plus or minus 4 percentage points.
