M Kharge after falling ill
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who fell ill while addressing an election rally in J&K's Kathua district, says he will not die until Prime Minister Narendra Modi is 'removed' from power . Mr. Kharge had felt dizzy while addressing a huge gathering on the last day of campaigning for the third and final phase of the parliamentary elections. Party leaders rushed to support him and led him to a chair. Soon after, he was examined by doctors who found that his blood pressure was fluctuating.
Later, Mr. Kharge returned to the stage and said: “We will fight to restore the state. I am 83 years old. I will not die so soon. I will stay alive until the Prime Minister Narendra Modi be removed from power.” “I wanted to speak. But due to dizziness, I sat down. Please excuse me,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi called Mr Kharge later in the evening. “PM Modi spoke to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge Ji and inquired about his health,” the Prime Minister's Office said.
Sources said Mr. Kharge's blood pressure had dropped and although he was feeling much better, doctors had advised him to rest. It is not yet clear whether he will attend the rally planned for this evening in Udhampur district.
Mr. Kharge had gone to Jasrota to address the rally organized in support of the party's candidates in the parliamentary elections.
Today is the last day of campaigning in Jammu and Kashmir, where the last and final phase of polling will take place on October 1.
Elections will be held in around 40 Assembly seats, including 11 in Jammu, six in Kathua, three in Samba and four in Udhampur districts. In Kashmir Valley, polling will be held in 16 assembly constituencies of Baramulla and Kupwara districts.
