Dilma Rousseff receives China's highest honor for foreigners from Xi Jinping

The President of the New Development Bank (NBD) of the BRICS, Dilma Rousseff, received this Sunday (09/29) the China Friendship Medal, presented by President Xi Jinping, during a ceremony in Beijing, before the 75th anniversary of the foundation. of the People's Republic in China.

This recognition was presented to the economist and former Brazilian president (2011-2016) at the Great Hall of the People, in the Chinese capital, the highest distinction granted by the government of the Asian country to foreigners.

The medal is awarded to people who have contributed to the modernization of China, the promotion of trade and cooperation between Beijing and foreign countries, and the protection of world peace.

At the event, Xi described the NBD chairman as an “outstanding representative” of the “many old and good friends who share the same interests as the Chinese people.”

In response, the former president declared herself “deeply honored,” adding that the honor “is a testament to the strong ties between our people and our countries.” The Chinese people and the Brazilian people are friends.

The head of the BRICS bank, headquartered in Shanghai, was honored just as Brazil and China celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
