Expert warns of mud risk from sea sand dredging
TEMPO.CO, Bogor – The head of the Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), Professor Yonvitner, said that the suction of materials in shallow seas, especially sea sandhas the potential to increase water turbidity. Currently, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is reviewing and selecting 66 companies that have applied for permits to export sea sand.

According to Yonvitner, PP number 26 of 2023 did not regulate improvements from the point of view of ecological function. The commercial mechanism and profit sharing of sea sand has also not involved funding for the conservation needs of the target mining areas. He said there have been no clear studies on the new revisions of the two Permendags.
