Overall, the chances of a full-on Chinese invasion are slim to none. This would represent a huge political and military risk for China, and its economy cannot afford to endure global sanctions. Beijing is also deeply dependent on Taiwan for its technological infrastructure: Taiwan's TSMC makes more than half of the world's computer chips that power things like phones and electric cars. But Taiwan's economy also depends on China, its main trading partner. Xi could therefore still exert a lot of pressure without sending a single troop to the island.
