In Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi hails Jhansis Jal Sahelis for reviving Ghurari River.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 'Mann Ki Baat' program on Sunday praised a women's self-help group (SHG) from Jhansi for reviving the Ghurari river in Bundelkhand region and preventing wastage of water.
The group, known as “Jal Sahelis”, had taken the initiative to build a check dam using bags filled with sand to prevent wastage of rainwater and thus replenish the river in the region that frequently faces water shortages.
The Prime Minister emphasized that 'nari shakti' (woman power) strengthens 'jal shakti' (water power) and vice versa. The self-help group of Simrawari village in Babina block of the district devoted over six days of voluntary work to construct the dam. The river's water now provides essential resources to local people, meeting their bathing needs and providing drinking water for animals.
In recognition of their contribution to water conservation, the group was honored by both the state and central governments.
Later in the day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and congratulated the women who have become an inspiration for water conservation.
