The change in status was a request from the Indonesian Association of Persons with Disabilities (PPDI) who met with Jokowi at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday (30/9/2024).

“Regarding the National Commission on Disability, until now it has been handled by the Ministry of Social Affairs. He (PPDI) wants this commission to be independent and directly under the authority of the President,” said Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf at the Presidential Palace Complex. , Central Jakarta, Monday (9/30/2024).

“We hope that there will be recognition of the National Commission on Disabilities which reports directly to the presidency so that the existence of the KND can be better in the future,” said PPDI General Chairman Norman Yulian, after meeting President Jokowi at the presidential palace in Jakarta on Monday.

During the meeting, the committee also discussed the implementation of Law Number 8 of 2016 relating to Persons with Disabilities, including the issue of the percentage of persons with disabilities in the workforce.
