Queen Elizabeth II had bone cancer, Boris Johnson says in his memoir as he describes his last meeting with the monarch at Balmoral Castle before his death.
Queen Elizabeth II suffered from bone cancer in the years before his death, Boris Johnson has said.
The former British Prime Minister wrote about the late Her Majesty's health in his memoirs, detailing his meeting with the monarch two days before his death.
He's not the first public figure to speculate that the late queen suffered from cancer, but Johnson gave extraordinary details about Elizabeth II's final days.

Johnson traveled to Balmoral, Scotland, to tender his resignation to the Queen in September 2022. His successor, Liz Truss, was officially appointed by the monarch on the same day, September 6.
Late His Majesty died at Balmoral two days later, September 8.
Writing in his memoirs, UnchainedThe former prime minister claims he was told to wait in the library by royal household staff, who he said “looked tired”.
The Queen's private secretary, Edward Young, “tried to prepare me”, he said.
Johnson writes: “I had known for a year or more that she was suffering from a form of bone cancer, and her doctors feared that at any moment she might experience a precipitous decline.”
“'It went down quite a bit over the summer,' he said. And then the footman knocked and took me into Her Majesty's drawing room.

“She appeared pale and more stooped, and she had dark bruises on her hands and wrists, probably from drips or injections.
“But her mind, as Edward had also said, was entirely unimpaired by her illness, and from time to time during our conversation she still flashed that great white smile in her sudden beauty that lifts the spirits .”
Johnson says his regular meetings with the Queen during his time as Prime Minister were “more than a privilege”.
“It was a balm, a form of free psychotherapy. It was like being at school and being taken to tea by a beloved grandmother.”

Most of the time, he accompanied her on her walks, first on horseback, then, later, on her beloved pony Emma.
Speaking on Gyles Brandreth rosebud podcast last month, Pendry described having to add another step to Queen's riding block every year as she got older, in order to be able to ride Emma comfortably.
He said that in his later years the queen became so fragile that he later had to remove it.
Pendry said he knew the Queen was ill because “she was growing lighter and lighter and more and more frail”.

They last rode together on July 18, the day before the monarch left for Balmoral, where she later died.
Pendry and Emma paid tribute to the Queen as his coffin passed through the gates of Windsor Castle for his detention service.
In the months following the Queen's death, Brandreth, who was a friend of the late Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, said the monarch “suffered from a form of myeloma”, or cancer of the bone marrow.
He made this claim in his book, Elizabeth: an intimate portrait, writing down the illness “would explain his fatigue and his weight loss and these “mobility problems” that we were often told about during the last year of his life.”
The official death certificate listed old age as the cause of death.
