Meeting with President Jokowi and PPDI Chairman Pushes for Implementation of Persons with Disabilities Law
President Joko Widodo received a visit from representatives of the Indonesian Association of Persons with Disabilities (PPDI), Monday, September 30, 2024, at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. During the warm meeting, PPDI President Norman Yulian expressed his appreciation for the Head of State's willingness to accept visits and discussions on disability issues in the country.
“Thank God, the atmosphere was so warm, Pak Jokowi really accepted us, we were very relaxed talking about disability issues in the country,” Norman Yulian told the media team after the meeting.
During the meeting, Norman also revealed several important points related to the implementation of Law Number 8 of 2016 regarding Persons with Disabilities. Norman said his party wants the implementation of Law number 8/2016 to be further strengthened, especially in partnerships between the central government and the regions.
“For example, governors, then regents, mayors can welcome us friends with disabilities to work together in partnership on how to build an inclusive Indonesia and how the law can be implemented by involving us,” Norman said.
Regarding employment issues, Norman also highlighted the quota of disabled workers in the public and private sectors, regulated by Law number 8/2016. According to Norman, the 1-2 percent quota for workers with disabilities needs to be given special attention, especially from ministries and regional heads, so that its implementation can be maximized.
On this occasion, President Jokowi also gave a positive response to the existence of PPDI. He hopes that PPDI and other disability organizations will continue to work with the new government to create an inclusive Indonesia.

As concrete support, President Jokowi also provided assistance in the form of operational cars to support organizational activities. Apart from this, the President also provided proper secretariat to the PPDI.
“Alhamdulillah, Mr. President also provided us with assistance in the form of an operational car for the organization and another suitable secretariat for us,” Norman said.
With this meeting, we hope that concrete steps for the full implementation of Law Number 8 of 2016 can be taken immediately, so that the rights of people with disabilities in Indonesia can be better respected.
