Modi in Mumbai: PM to inaugurate Metro 3, deliver speech on October 5 | Bombay News
Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the city on October 5 to launch a series of infrastructure projects, including the first phase of underground Metro Line 3. The Prime Minister will also address a rally in Thane, a little over a month away from the Maharashtra assembly elections.
State government officials held a meeting in Thane on Monday to review the modalities of Modis' visit. Among the infrastructure projects that the Prime Minister will launch is the The Thane Internal Metro, worth 12,220 crore, will have 20 elevated and two underground stations over a route of 29 km. He will then address a gathering at Walavalkar ground in Thanes Kasarvadavli area.
The state government wants around 40,000 people to participate in the rally, for which 1,200 buses are planned. Women will make up a significant part of the crowd, according to government plans. The ruling Mahayuti government has recently launched several populist programs aimed at women, including the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, which promises a monthly allowance of 1,500 for disadvantaged women.
Meanwhile, Mumbai residents will finally be able to use the much-awaited Metro 3 or Aqua Line after the Prime Minister inaugurated the Aarey-Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) phase. The 12.5 km section will have 10 stations, out of the 27 planned for the city's first underground metro line. The rest of the line, which will run to Colaba, south of Mumbai, is expected to be ready by March 2025.
The inauguration ceremony of the 33.5 km Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ metro line was held on 26 August 2014 by the then Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and the then Urban Development Minister , Venkaiah Naidu. Work started on October 21, 2016.
Before arriving in Mumbai, Modi will visit the Pohradevi shrine in Vidarbhas Washim district, revered by the Banjara community. The community has a strong presence in Vidarbha, where the Mahayuti managed to take the lead in only 20 of the 62 assembly constituencies in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The state government had sanctioned 725 crore for the development of shrines and Banjara Heritage Museum, which will showcase the culture and traditions of the community.
In 2014, Modi launched his election campaign from Yavatmal-Washim. He also launched his Chai Pe Charcha (Tea Talks) initiative in Dabhadi village in Nashik district.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (Cidco) also invited Modi to witness the first test landing at the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport on October 5. However, it remains unclear whether the Prime Minister has agreed to attend the event.
