Punjab Governor Sardar Salim Haider Khan has advised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to put aside his differences and join forces with President Asif Ali Zardari for the sake of country.

The governor urged Khan to abandon his rigid stance, suggesting that working under Zardari's leadership would resolve the current political turmoil.

Speaking at the first convocation of Rawalpindi Women's University, Haider said, “Imran Khan must come out of his stubbornness. My advice is to sit under Zardari's leadership, and everything will improve.

He also stressed the need for patience from the PTI, saying that even though they are hungry for revolution, they should wait until after the next Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

“Revolutions do not happen with ministers, convoys and official resources,” he remarked, advising the PTI to suspend its efforts and give the country some breathing space.

Punjab governor criticizes PTI's approach to politics

Governor Haider expressed disappointment over PTI's recent actions, accusing the party of destabilizing the country during crucial foreign visits.

He mentioned instances where the PTI disrupted important diplomatic events, such as organizing protests during visits by foreign leaders like Chinese President Xi Jinping and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

“They are sending the wrong message to the world, discouraging foreign leaders from engaging with Pakistan,” Haider said.

He added that the PTI should focus on bringing real changes in critical sectors like education and health in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, rather than creating instability in the country.

Haider hails Asif Zardari's political role

The governor praised President Zardari, saying he had the ability to unite political factions and guide the country towards progress. “Pakistan was fortunate to have a man like Asif Zardari, who can bring things together. Most political parties trust him and are ready to follow his leadership,” Haider remarked.

He also discussed the ongoing efforts of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) to restore elements of the Charter of Democracy and amend constitutional amendments made under previous regimes. “Zardari is committed to including the missing elements of the Charter of Democracy which were left out during the 18th Amendment,” Haider said.

Governor calls for constitutional reforms

Governor Haider advocated for further constitutional amendments, insisting that they must be achieved by consensus. He announced that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was actively engaging with lawyers across the country to build support for judicial reforms, with upcoming speeches planned for major bar associations.

Haider also highlighted challenges within the education system, highlighting corruption and merit violations in universities. “If I succeed in solving these problems as chancellor, it will be a major achievement,” he said.
