Queen Elizabeth II suffered from bone cancer, says former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson – National
The late Queen Elizabeth II suffered from a form of bone cancer in her final years, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson controversially claimed in his memoir.
In an extract from Unchainedwhich is due out later this month and serialized by the Daily MailJohnson broke royal protocol and shared that the monarch suffered from bone cancer before she died in 2022.
He wrote that two days before the Queen's death, on September 8, 2022, he traveled to Balmoral Castle in Scotland to formally resign from his post, as is the custom. The Queen has appointed Liz Truss as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
The official cause of her death was recorded as “old age”, but Johnson said she suffered from bone cancer and knew “all summer that she was leaving”.
“Edward Young, his private secretary, tried to groom me,” Johnson wrote. “I had known for a year or more that she was suffering from a form of bone cancer, and her doctors were concerned that at any moment she could experience a precipitous decline.

Johnson wrote that during their last visit, the queen appeared “pale and more stooped, and she had dark bruises on her hands and wrists, probably from drops or injections.”
However, he also wrote that she remained mentally sharp and described her bright smile.
“But her mind, as Edward had also said, was entirely unimpaired by her illness, and from time to time during our conversation she still flashed that great white smile in her sudden beauty that lifts the spirits .”
He also wrote that Elizabeth shared one last “crucial” piece of advice with him during the visit.
“There’s no point in being bitter,” she said, and amen to that. If everyone, in politics and in life, could see this as clearly as she does, the world would be a much happier place,” he shared.

Johnson was the 14th Prime Minister to hold the role during the Queen's historic 70-year reign.
His admission is likely to raise eyebrows at Buckingham Palace, as the royal family is notoriously private on matters of personal health. The late queen never shared private medical details regarding her health with the public.
Since his passing, however, royal protocol has relaxed a bit, especially this year as King Charles III and Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, both faced cancer diagnoses and shared updates about their health with the world.
Neither the king nor princess shared the specific type of cancer they were diagnosed with, speaking more generally about their progress in treatment and their respective returns to royal duties.
Both royals said, through their aides, that they were sharing their experiences to raise awareness.
Buckingham Palace has not commented on the contents of Johnson's book.
