NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in a cleanliness drive at a school on October 2, celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Swachhata Campaign. Addressing school children, he urged citizens to join the initiative and strengthen the spirit of 'Swachh Bharat'.
Coinciding with the 155th Gandhi Jayanti, Prime Minister Modi also attended the Swachh Bharat Diwas 2024 program at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, marking a decade since the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission, one of the most significant mass movements in India for cleanliness. The Prime Minister highlighted that the construction of separate toilets in schools has played a key role in reducing the dropout rate of girls across the country.

During the event, PM Modi also virtually inaugurated a Gaushala with a Bio-CNG plant, along with other development projects in Madhya Pradesh. He highlighted how the Swachh Bharat campaign has evolved from a simple cleanliness movement to a new path to prosperity for India.
Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy welcomed the BJP Governmentsaying that over the past decade, millions of toilets have been constructed, leading to a significant reduction in open defecation and improved sanitation standards. He noted that the mission aims not only to promote cleanliness but also to transform mindsets, improve hygiene and create a sustainable future for all.

Reflecting on the success of the campaign, Prime Minister Modi reiterated that only through continuous efforts can India achieve sustainable cleanliness. The Swachh Bharat Mission, launched on October 2, 2014, followed Prime Minister Modi's powerful call from the Red Fort for cleanliness to become a national priority. The initiative took a “whole of government” approach, making sanitation a responsibility shared by all sectors of society.
