Jokowi inaugurates Temef Dam in NTT, highlights crucial role of water in prosperity
TEMPO.CO, Cut – President Joko”Jokowi“Widodo inaugurated the Temef Dam in South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. In his speech, the President highlighted the paramount importance of water in the region, particularly for agricultural development.
The Temef Dam is expected to boost agricultural production, benefiting crops such as rice, cassava and corn.
“Water is the key to NTT’s prosperity,” he said. The head of state also expressed hope that the dam would alleviate flooding in the south-central regencies of Timor and Malaka.
Temef Dam has a reservoir area of 297.78 hectares and is strategically located in three villages in two districts: Oenino Village and North Pane Village in Oenino District, and Konbaki Village in the Polen district. The capacity of the dam is large, reaching up to 45.78 million cubic meters.
The president noted that at the time of the inauguration, the water level of the dam was at 20 percent of its capacity. However, during the upcoming rainy season in January, it is expected to reach full capacity.
Speaking to South Central Timor's acting regent, Seperius Edison Sipa, Jokowi urged him to “use the Temef Dam for the well-being of our people in South Central Timor.”
Construction of the Temef Dam began in 2017 and was divided into four work packages. Package I was undertaken by the joint operation of PT Waskita-Bangunnusa, while packages II and III were carried out by the joint operation of PT Nindya-Bina Nusa Lestari. Package IV was assigned to the joint operation of PT Waskita-Bahagia-Guntur. The total construction budget was 2.7 trillion rupees.
The Temef Dam is an important element of the National Strategic Program (NSP) and incorporates advanced digital technology in the form of an On-Site Inclinometer (IPI) application.
President Jokowi was accompanied by Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, NTT Acting Governor Andriko Noto Susanto, Regional Military Command IX/Udayana Commander Major General Muhammad Zamroni and NTT Regional Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Tahi Monang Silitonga during his visit to NTT .
