Inaugurating 7 integrated PLBNs, President Jokowi says borders are the face of Indonesia

In his speech, the Head of State highlighted the importance of the existence of the PLBN as a representation of the face of Indonesia in the eyes of the world. The President said the borders are the front porch of the country that shows the progress of the nation.

The President also emphasized that the development of PLBN is also an effort to create equitable development for Indonesia's outermost regions. In addition to functioning as a national defense buffer zone, the PLBN is also expected to be able to develop new economic points in border areas.
Since 2015, the government has built a total of 15 PLBNs. During the period 2015-2019, seven PLBNs were successfully completed, while another eight PLBNs were constructed during the period 2020-2024.
“Seven integrated border crossings spread across East Nusa Tenggara, Riau Islands, West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan and South Papua, with a total budget of Rp1.3 trillion, which is not a small amount of money,” the president said.
In detail, the President mentioned several PLBNs that had just been inaugurated, including the Napan Integrated PLBN in the North Middle East Regency, NTT, which was built with a budget of 128 billion rupiah, and the Serasan PLBN in Natuna Regency, Riau Islands, with a budget of IDR 145 billion. Apart from this, PLBN Jagoi Babang in Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan, was built at a cost of IDR 224 billion, while PLBN Sei Nyamuk and PLBN Labang, both in Nunukan Regency, in North Kalimantan, cost IDR 248 billion and IDR 210 billion respectively.
“The PLBN in Long Nawang in Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan Province with a budget of IDR 243 billion, and the seventh in Yetetkun in Ninati District, Boven Digoel Regency in South Papua was built with a budget of IDR 127 billion,” said the president.
President Jokowi also hopes that the existence of this integrated PLBN will not only improve services to people crossing the border, but also strengthen the security of border areas. Aside from that, he also hopes that the existence of PLBN can encourage economic growth in border areas.
