'60 Minutes' election special will feature only Harris after Trump is released on bail

It appears tonight's vice presidential debate between Democrat Tim Walz and Republican JD Vance won't be the last notable television event before the historic November 5 election. With no more presidential debates on the horizon, 60 Minutes announced plans to air a television special that initially contained deals for separate interviews with the two presidential candidates. But now only one is planned.

According to CBS News, Donald Trump first agreed to an interview with Scott Pelley – after which Vice President Kamala Harris said yes to doing the same with correspondent Bill Whitaker. However, the former president has since stepped down. After all, he decided not to participate in the campaign, which Pelley plans to address during the telecast.

The special Monday edition of 60 Minutes will air October 7 at 8 p.m. – following the popular CBS news magazine's half-century tradition of inviting Democratic and Republican candidates to appear on the show before Americans do not vote.

A CBS News spokesperson confirmed that the special will air as planned — and, if Trump reconsiders, his offer to be interviewed on the program stands. As for Vice President Harris, 60 Minutes is expected to interview and film her on the campaign trail this week. Walz should participate in some way.

With the follow-up to the heated and often chaotic September 10 debate between Harris and Trump, there remain few non-rally opportunities for the candidates to have access to television. However, once another debate was abandoned, the two agreed to separate Univision's town halls for Hispanic voters, which will air over the next week.

Harris, who has been criticized for her few televised meetings with reporters since becoming a Democratic candidate, recently sat down on MSNBC for a 25-minute interview with Stephanie Ruhle.
