Ladakh climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was released after nearly 36 hours of detention on Wednesday, said the Union Home Ministry had assured him of a meeting with the Prime Minister or President soon to address his concerns.

Sonam Wangchuk, along with 150 other protesters from Ladakh, were arrested by the Delhi Police at the Singhu border on Monday as they entered the national capital. The action took place against the backdrop of the banning orders imposed on the capital, which lasted until October 6.

As Sonam Wangchuk's Delhi Chalo Padyatra approached the national capital's border with supporters from Leh, police intervened, leading to his arrest.

We faced some challenges while reaching Delhi due to the lockdown, but everything happens for a reason, and we are happy that our message of environment conservation has reached more people. We have submitted a memorandum to the government, calling for protection of Ladakh under the constitutional provisions to safeguard the Himalayas, said Sonam Wangchuk.

From September 1, the march was launched to push the Center to resume talks with Ladakh leaders.
